Homemade Non-Toxic Sunscreen Cream

The warm summer months will be here any day!  It’s time to prepare with all the needed fun in the sun items.  This homemade non-toxic sunscreen cream is easy to make and it works!

The sunscreen you buy from the store has a few questionable ingredients you will want to avoid.  As usual, buying all-natural organic brands can be expensive, so making your own is the best option. Because this sunscreen cream has the active ingredient is zinc oxide, it is safe to use on babies under 6 months of age.

The more people learn about what we put on our skin. the more you realize that making a homemade sunscreen product has become more of a priority.

Reasons not to use Conventional Sunscreen:

  • Nano zinc oxide is zinc oxide with particles small enough that they can go deep into the layers of skin. That’s not safe, and it leaves the top layers of skin unprotected.
  • Non-biodegradable chemicals lurk in commercial sunscreens. These chemicals are carcinogenic and are hormone disruptors. Remember how our skin rapidly absorbs whatever we put on it? We definitely won’t want these chemicals being absorbed into our bloodstream!
  • Conventional sunscreens carry these chemicals deep into the body. Once the chemicals are deep within the skin’s layers, they can react with UV light and cause skin damage. In fact, commercial sunscreens can actually raise skin cancer risk

How to make Homemade Non-toxic Sunscreen Lotion:

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Organic Beeswax
  • 2 oz. Tallow
  • 2 oz. Organic Coconut Oil
  • 1 oz. Carrot Seed Oil
  • 2 oz  Organic Argan or Jojoba Oil
  • 2 oz. Non Nano Zinc Oxide
  1. Weigh all ingredients and put them on the top of a double boiler.
  2. When all ingredients are melted, mix well with a whisk.
  3. Allow mixture to cool slightly.
  4. When the mixture just starts to thicken but is still pourable, put in glass jars or silicone tubes.
  5. As it cools it will solidify

Why use Tallow?

Tallow has an abundance of skin-friendly nutrients, including fat-soluble vitamins and antioxidants.  It is an intense moisturizer that assists in retaining the skin’s natural moisture. It replenishes the building blocks of our skin that decrease with age. It’s non-greasy, won’t clog your pores, is long-lasting and is 100% natural.

Substitutions for Tallow:
  1. Shea Butter
  2. Cocoa Butter
  3. Almond Oil
