The warm summer months will be here any day!  It’s time to prepare with all the needed fun in the sun items.  This homemade non-toxic sunscreen cream is easy to make and it works!

The sunscreen you buy from the store has a few questionable ingredients you will want to avoid.  As usual, buying all-natural organic brands can be expensive, so making your own is the best option. Because this sunscreen cream has the active ingredient is zinc oxide, it is safe to use on babies under 6 months of age.

The more people learn about what we put on our skin. the more you realize that making a homemade sunscreen product has become more of a priority.

Reasons not to use Conventional Sunscreen:

  • Nano zinc oxide is zinc oxide with particles small enough that they can go deep into the layers of skin. That’s not safe, and it leaves the top layers of skin unprotected.
  • Non-biodegradable chemicals lurk in commercial sunscreens. These chemicals are carcinogenic and are hormone disruptors. Remember how our skin rapidly absorbs whatever we put on it? We definitely won’t want these chemicals being absorbed into our bloodstream!
  • Conventional sunscreens carry these chemicals deep into the body. Once the chemicals are deep within the skin’s layers, they can react with UV light and cause skin damage. In fact, commercial sunscreens can actually raise skin cancer risk

How to make Homemade Non-toxic Sunscreen Lotion:

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Organic Beeswax
  • 2 oz. Tallow
  • 2 oz. Organic Coconut Oil
  • 1 oz. Carrot Seed Oil
  • 2 oz  Organic Argan or Jojoba Oil
  • 2 oz. Non Nano Zinc Oxide
  1. Weigh all ingredients and put them on the top of a double boiler.
  2. When all ingredients are melted, mix well with a whisk.
  3. Allow mixture to cool slightly.
  4. When the mixture just starts to thicken but is still pourable, put in glass jars or silicone tubes.
  5. As it cools it will solidify

Why use Tallow?

Tallow has an abundance of skin-friendly nutrients, including fat-soluble vitamins and antioxidants.  It is an intense moisturizer that assists in retaining the skin’s natural moisture. It replenishes the building blocks of our skin that decrease with age. It’s non-greasy, won’t clog your pores, is long-lasting and is 100% natural.

Substitutions for Tallow:
  1. Shea Butter
  2. Cocoa Butter
  3. Almond Oil
  4. Avacado Oil
Try Making it!

It works great. Protects us from sunburn every single time.  Safe enough for very young children to use.

You can also contact The Rooted Haven to purchase it!

Enjoy…

Magnesium is good for the skin https://therootedhaven.com/magnesium-is-good-for-the-skin/ Thu, 21 Apr 2022 00:18:22 +0000 https://therootedhaven.com/?p=915 Magnesium is good for the skin!  Did you know that magnesium is an essential mineral?  You need it to function but you cannot synthesize it on your own.

Magnesium is good for the skin!  Did you know that magnesium is an essential mineral?  You need it to function but you cannot synthesize it on your own.

Most people think of what magnesium does for their overall body/health.

Magnesium is an essential mineral that plays a role in hundreds of human enzyme reactions and several critical bodily functions.

Some of the processes that magnesium contributes to:

  • regulation of nerve signaling
  • muscle activity
  • blood sugar balance
  • heart rhythm
  • immune system function
  • blood pressure
  • creating protein
  • bones
  • DNA

How Does Magnesium Affect The Skin?

Magnesium plays an important role in hundreds of biochemical reactions in the body. And while magnesium benefits your “insides”, it absolutely can benefit your outsides as well.

A few of the ways that magnesium has a positive effect on your skin include:

  1. Improves Overall Appearance
Having low levels of magnesium can result in a deficiency in essential fatty acids that support the skin. These acids play an important role in keeping skin moisturized and maintaining elasticity.
  2. Lowers Cortisol Levels
Inflammation is a major trigger for several skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, and acne breakouts.Sufficient magnesium can help to inhibit the release of the neurotransmitters that trigger stress and anxiety, lowering the amount and frequency of cortisol and potentially helping with inflammation.
  3. Regulates Cellular Repair and Regeneration
Your body is made up of billions of cells working together to keep you alive and well. Magnesium helps your cells in by regulating cell metabolism, supporting DNA replication to store information that’s passed onto new cells once created, and repairing damaged or weakened cells. The stronger and healthier your cells, the stronger and healthier you’ll be.
  4. Reduces Hyperpigmentation and Sun Damage
When you experience direct sunlight exposure, you’re being showered with ultraviolet radiation. With prolonged exposure, these ultraviolet rays can damage the skin due and lead to severe cellular damage, commonly resulting in the appearance of “sunspots,” the name for hyperpigmentation. Think of magnesium almost like an internal sunscreen. You absolutely should still use external sunscreen, but maintaining sufficient magnesium can boost your natural protection from sun damage.
  5. Soothes Redness and Inflammation
As a response to inflammation, your liver releases a substance called C-reactive protein, or CRP. This protein binds to various cells and acts as an early defense against infections High levels of CRP also contribute to a systemic inflammatory response. Magnesium has been shown to reduce the level of CRP in the blood and lower inflammation in the body and redness.
Magnesium Facial Cream benefits:
  • Magnesium helps improve your skin’s overall appearance
  • Reducing acne
  •  Skin disorders by lowering cortisol levels
  • Stabilizing hormonal imbalances
  • Improving cellular process

Magnesium is the way to go for individuals who want to reduce redness or rosacea!

The Rooted Haven’s Magnesium Cream is just what you need!

Have you heard about Tallow in skincare?  I’ll give you the important info discussing “The Reasons Tallow is Beneficial in Skincare.”

First, the reason Tallow is beneficial in skincare is it really closely mimics the fats and oils we have naturally in our skin.

As we get older, our skin slows down on the production of these oils that keep our skin soft, and youthful-looking.

Grass-fed tallow helps put back what time takes away.
Rejuvenating the appearance of the skin, as well as smoothing out the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

WHAT IS TALLOW?

  • It’s is an incredibly nourishing, vitamin-rich form of pure, rendered animal fat.
  • Healthy fats are actually beneficial AND essential when it comes to our overall health, starting at a cellular level.

Tallow (specifically from grass-fed cows), is a game-changer. Not only is beef tallow a healthy cooking fat, but it also acts as a topical superfood for the skin!

WHY IS TALLOW WORK IN SKINCARE?

Tallow is incredibly effective in improving skin cell health due to the similar makeup it has to our skin. Our cell membranes are made up of mostly fatty acids, with at least 50% being saturated fats. Tallow is also made up of about 50% saturated fats – with the remaining amount being monounsaturated – making it compatible with our cell biology and powerfully nourishing for our cell health.

WHAT IS IN TALLOW?

    • Vitamin A – encourages the production of collagen, elastin, and healthy skin cells + strengthens tissue to keep skin firm, smooth and youthful while helping to heal skin issues from acne to aging.
    • Vitamin D – contributes to skin cell development, repair, metabolism, and immune function + protects and rejuvenates the skin by protecting against free radicals that cause premature aging.
    • Vitamin K – an important role in skin tone, texture, and overall health + soothes skin inflammation and irritations while helping to speed up the healing process.
    • Vitamin E – Powerful antioxidant that repairs and reverses free radical damage + deeply hydrates and promotes healing in skin’s appearance.

CAN ANYONE USE PRODUCTS THAT CONTAIN TALLOW?

  • Tallow is safe + effective for every area of the body (even for babies!)
  • It is readily absorbed by the skin (because of its similar structure) leaving skin looking radiant, rather than oily.

WHAT PRODUCTS CAN INCLUDE TALLOW?

  • Facial Creams
  • Body Butter
  • Lotion Bars
  • Lip Balm
  • Deodorant

All of these products can be made with Tallow to create a beautifying blend of responsibly sourced animal fats + organic plant oils that work together to deeply moisturize and nourish the skin.

Our skin needs these nutrients and fats together in order to stay healthy, elastic and balanced.

WHY IS MY HAIR FALLING OUT OR THINNING:

There are a variety of reasons for hair loss or thinning.  Here are some common reasons for the loss:

  • Hormones – Postpartum hair loss – Oestrogens (female hormones) are ‘hair friendly’ and help to keep hairs in their growth phase for the optimal length of time.
  • Stress – Excess stress can make your hair fall out. It may also trigger scalp problems, such as dandruff.
  • Iron deficiency – The common cause of hair loss in women is iron deficiency. Iron is essential for producing hair cell protein. Contact your doctor for a blood test to verify iron levels.
  • Thyroid issues – The thyroid gland helps to regulate the body’s metabolism by controlling the production of proteins and tissue use of oxygen. Any thyroid imbalance can therefore affect hair follicles.
  • Low B12 levels -Vitamin B12 deficiency often causes hair loss as it can affect the health of red blood cells, which carry oxygen to your tissues.
  • Weight loss – 2-4 months after dramatic weight loss, whether it be intentional or unintentional, hair commonly comes out in excess.
  • Age – menopause – If you’re going through or about to enter menopause, changes in your body may also have an effect on your hair. Hair loss becomes more prevalent leading up to and after menopause. Just realize that our hair ages, and as we get older, hair naturally gets finer.
How to use Handcrafted Hair Growth Oil:

This hair growth oil is loaded with essential oils that boast anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that help in combating hair fall, stimulating the scalp for growth, and more. Combine it with a soothing and stimulating scalp massage weekly, and you’ll have a healthy, clear scalp and begin noticing healthier, fuller hair.
